Mindset Coaching:
Fear of failure is the most common inhibitor to success in athletics. We gain confidence when we experience challenges we successfully overcome, and we realize progress when we struggle against significant obstacles and succeed. This increased confidence has the power to keep girls in sport, help them perform better at school, and give them the tools to maintain better overall mental and physical health. These skills will transcend to all aspects of their lives.
We know through research that the brain’s plasticity gives us the power to grow and evolve in response to life experiences. It is because of this neuroplasticity that we are able to change limiting patterns of thinking to develop a positive mindset. One problem is that what we feel and think impacts our actions and outcomes even though our thoughts are NOT FACTS. Through Alison’s programme, girls will gain an appreciation for the malleability of the brain. They will develop increased self-awareness, have new insight to feelings, create positive self talk and improve focus. Girls will learn to balance pressure to reach their individual peak performance in both practices and games. They will also reinforce learning through self-reflection. Every girl should have the opportunity to learn these important skills.
Alison has developed a dynamic programme for youth to build a strong positive mindset through the enjoyment of sport. Alison works with athletes one-on-one to overcome negative beliefs, short attention span, distractions, anxiety and perfectionist tendencies. Once she understands what is preventing your daughter from reaching her potential, Alison introduces appropriate training tools to help clients change their mindset and achieve greater confidence. The Level Up programme works on mindfulness, developing good habits, improving motivation, creating positive self talk, and using visualization techniques and routines to mentally plan for training and competition. This is not a one-programme-fits-all solution. Through a process of trial and error, repetition and reflection Alison works with her clients to find what works for each individual. When your daughter has found the tools that improve performance she can apply them to many areas of her life. These tools have been shown to boost confidence, growth, self awareness, independence and agency.
